Gladys becomes Mi Home compatible!

Hello, everyone,

For those who are not familiar with Xiaomi Smart Home products, it is a complete home automation range consisting of a Wi-Fi gateway connected to the Internet box, and a set of devices connected in Zigbee to the gateway. The same combo as the Philips Hue bulbs in a way. Their big advantage is that not only is the technology robust, has a good range, is not energy consuming for the devices, but it is also low-cost! We are talking about a few euros for each sensor.

And I am happy to announce that a first version of this Xiaomi Home module is now available!

A Romantic Mode with your Home Assistant Gladys !

The Hardware

This is the hardware I support for now. Note that the gateway is essential, and then it is up to you to decide depending on your installation.

Xiaomi Gateway - 24€
Xiaomi Aqara Humidity sensor + Temperature - 7€
Xiaomi button connected - 6€
Xiaomi Aqara door and window opening detector - 6€

My favorite is the Xiaomi button which allows you to detect 4 different presses and trigger scenarios accordingly, such as the famous romantic mode that earned me an article on the website of the Raspberry Pi Foundation 😃

Installation

The module is available on GitHub.

Download the Mi Home app on the Play Store or App Store
When creating your account, set your region to "Mainland China" to be able to use these products (otherwise you will not be able to use Xiaomi Home products). You can change this region in "Settings" -> "Local" otherwise.
Follow the configuration in the app, connect your Xiaomi Gateway, and install all your Xiaomi devices according to their installation manual.
Update the gateway to the latest version
Switch the Xiaomi Gateway to developer mode.

Conclusion

Of course, all this is just one example of what can be done with a little imagination and these Xiaomi devices. I really recommend them to you!

Fun fact, the Xiaomi button is quite sensitive, and I have sometimes triggered the mode several times by mistake just by placing sheets on my desk, or by placing the button somewhere else. In order to stop bothering my roommates with this mode, I ended up creating an "abort" mode that is triggered when I double click on the 😂 button.
